Chapter 2. A bump in the road.
Fred was still on cloud 9, but he knew that he would have to tell Ron when he came back, and he knew that Ron would not be happy about this. Fred knew that Ron liked Hermione, but she made him feel like no one else could. He took a deep breath when he heard the door open and waited until his family was in sight. “Presents! Lovely! Did’ya get anything for your favourite son mum?” he said as he winked at Mrs.Weasley. “Did you get anything for your favourite mother?” she asked as she smiled back at him. “Of course mum. You just have to wait until Christmas.” Fred said with a wink. “Anyways, Ron can I talk to you?” he said as he spotted his brother. “Sure thing mate.” Ron said as he made his way over. He was in such a good mood. Fred really didn’t want to ruin it. It was so nice to see Ron happy. “Erm… I have to tell you something about Mione….” he started and watched Ron’s face fall. “We um…We’re together.” ‘Quick. Just like ripping off a band aid’ he though to himself. “YOU LAZY GIT.” Ron screamed and pounced on Fred. Tackling him to the floor. “Oy! Get off Ron!” Fred shouted back as he wrestled him off him. Hermione came running as soon as she heard yelling. Once she heard Ron and Fred’s voice she knew what had happened. Fred had told Ron. “Stop it! The two of you get up!” she screeched as she pulled up Fred. “Ronald. Stop acting like such a child.” She knew she was being cruel, but just couldn’t help it. “Hermione please don’t be with him. Please.” she could see the pain in Ron’s eyes. “Please…” “Ron… I’m sorry. But I just…. I really like Fred.” She didn’t know what else to say. “You know what. Fine. I don’t care.” Ron said as he stormed off. Hermione could feel the tears coming, and broke away as Fred wrapped his arms around her. She ran into her room and let her sobs wrack her body. A few seconds later, Fred was there holding her. “Shh Mione. Shh. It’s ok. He’s just mad at me right now. Not you. Shh.” he told her over and over in an attempt to sooth her cries. After a few hiccups, her tears stopped and she looked at Fred with red eyes. “I didn’t think this would happen. It’s all my fault,” she said as she looked down. “Hermione. Ron is my brother. We fall out all the time! This will be over before you know it” She smiled a bit. “I just hate to ruin his Christmas. This should be a happy time with family.” She could feel the tears coming again. “Don’t cry. C’mon. Look at me” Fred said as he brushed a tear off her cheek. “Don’t worry about it. Seriously Mione. He’ll get over it. I promise.” He said as he kissed her forehead. She smiled as soon as she felt his lips against her skin. “You’re beautiful. Did you know that?” Fred asked quietly. “I do now” Hermione replied as she moved in closer to his face gently pressing her lips to his. George crept into the room and stood behind them silently. “Oy! Lovebirds! Quit snoggin’. It’s time for dinner!” He said loudly, startling both Fred and Hermione. Fred turned to scowl at his brother. “Bugger of mate” he growled. George smiled back at him. “Alright alright. But be down soon. Don’t want to get mum in a tizzy do’ya?” Fred shook his head, but couldn’t help but smile. He stood up and offered his hand to Hermione. “We might as well go. Around Christmas time mum’s cooking is the best.” Hermione laughed. “In all my life. I have NEVER seen anyone who eats like you Weasley’s.” She said as she smiled warmly. “You haven’t been alive that long Granger” Fred said as if talking to a small child and winking at her. She smacked him playfully on the arm. “Get a move on! They’ve got to be wondering where we are!” she replied. They walked hand in hand into the dining room and sat down beside each other. “I reckon you won’t be able to pull them two of em apart!” George muttered. Fred threw a pea at him. “Mind your business Georgie.” He said teasingly. Hermione was trying to ignore the looks that Ron was giving he across the table. “This is great Mrs.Weasley. Tastes fantastic” she smiled at Molly, who returned the smile. Hermione took a quick glance at Ron, he sat across from her with a mixture of anger and sadness frozen onto his face. She dropped her gaze down just as quick, but Fred saw Ron’s face. ‘He’ll get over it eventually,’ he thought to himself. ‘He has too.’ He gave Hermione’s leg a comforting squeeze under the table and continued on with his meal. ‘He has too…’
